On February 16, Meigs wrote to Governor Blount that Tahlonteskee had departed with a sizable party. How much aid Meigs provided the Cherokees is not clear; certainly it was far short of what Jefferson had indicated. In one report, Meigs stated that he gave one man a rifle; fiscal records indicate that the Sanlowee-Bowle party was provided with twelve blankets. 21
