Ever Wondered What Our Federal Recognition Looks Like?
This one is in two parts.
First and foremost, the "Cherokee" in this account can only be the Chickamauga since Spain would not have anything to do with the actual cherokee because of the attitude of the cherokee chiefs toward the Spanish.
Second, the phrase, "presented me with several large collars of porcelain beads" is a wampum belt of which at least one is described in other locations as being 12 feet long. The wampum belt in this instance was to solidify the contract of protection and safety the Spanish agree to provide to the 6 Nations.
This greeting is a slap in the face to the United States which was continually attacking the different tribes of the 6 Nations and they had turned to Spain for their protection under the auspices of the Doctrine of Discovery granting Spain dominion of the Southeast portion of the United States from the Ohio River South to the Gulf, East to the Ridge of the Appalachians, and to the Pacific.
Page 118 again begins with the wampum belts as signs of contractual obligations to Spain.
Above, the phrase, "will open to you the doors and windows of their homes as I do here to receive you, and that they will never block the roads of your nations." This is the granting of Spanish protection of the 6 Nations and recognizes them sovereigns. The statement of Never Blocking their roads is the agreement that Spain would always recognized and protect the 6 Nation, without end.
The 6 Nations have pledged and have shed their blood in support of Spain and her flag. Cruzat concludes his remarks with, "I clasp your hand sincerely, and I beg the Master of Life to take pity on your deplorable condition and better it according to your desire."
The wampum belts are the introduction to the contract with Spain which Spain fully took and agreed to provide the obligation of protection and freedom forever. the
Connecting the dots is what investigators are required to do when searching for the hidden gems of history. Here is a major DOT.
Finally, here is the payoff and the dots that connect these two documents.
ARTICLE VI
This Treaty requires the United States to honor, literally "execute" treaties and articles as may have been agreed between Spain and the tribes and nations of Indians until by mutual consent of the United States and the said tribes or nations other Suitable articles Shall have been agreed upon.
What does this mean, how are the dots connected? First, Spain agrees in the articles of a contract to "will open to you the doors and windows of their homes as I do here to receive you, and that they will never block the roads of your nations." The United States has NOT honored this agreement with the Chickamauga. They have refused to discuss our Federal Recognition even though it is guaranteed to us in these documents.
Because of the agreement between Spain and the 6 Nations, the United States signs the 1794 Canadaigua Treaty with the Western Confederacy of which the Chickamauga are a part.
