Foundations of the Government of The Chickamauga Nation
The Foundations of the government of The Chickamauga Nation are firmly set within the Great Law of Peace. When examining the Southeastern and Northeastern Ceremonial Complexes of the Mound Building Culture we find the basis of the Great Law of Peace. The proximity to Cahokia and its influence across the Americas is evidenced in the oral traditions which came to be represented in the Southeastern Ceremonial Complex, the Northeastern Ceremonial Complex, as well as the Great Law of Peace.
The Government of The Chickamauga Nation is based on the culture and religion expressed in the Mississippi River Bottoms by the Mound Building Cultures during the Woodland period. Some of those cultures and religions predate the birth of Christ by over 1500 years.
In 2024, the National Council of The Chickamauga Nation approved the De-Colonization of its governing documents and returning to its traditional, Pre-Contact form of government wherever it is possible.
